Scottish American’s deputy managers take charge – The Board of the Scottish American Investment Company has announced that James Dow and Toby Ross, previously Deputy Managers, have become Joint Managers of the fund.

The Board said that it wished to extend its thanks to Dominic Neary, the former Manager of Scottish American, for his considerable contribution to the company during his tenure as manager.

Dominic graduated BA in Mathematics in 1990 and an MSc in Statistics in 1991, both from Oxford University, as well as completing a PhD in Statistics at Reading University in 1995. He subsequently spent three years as a post-doctoral research fellow in quantitative genetics before moving to fund management, initially with Stewart Ivory and latterly with Insight Investment where he managed global equity portfolios in both long-only and market neutral strategies. Dominic joined Baillie Gifford in 2009, becoming head of its Global Income Growth team and manager of Scottish American.

James Dow graduated MA(Hons) in Economics-philosophy from the University of St Andrews in 2000, and an MSc in Development Studies at the London school of Economics in 2001. He spent three years working at The Scotsman newspaper, where he was the Economics Editor. James joined Baillie Gifford’s graduate scheme in 2004, working as an investment manager in its US equities team and as a Global Sector specialist, before joining the Global Income Growth team. He is a CFA charterholder.

Toby Ross graduated MA in English Literature from the University of Cambridge in June 2006 and joined Baillie Gifford in the same year. He spent some time as an Investment Analyst in the UK equity Team and as a Global Sector specialist, before joining the Global Income Growth team. He is a CFA charterholder.
