Capital Gearing delivers 200x return since Peter Spiller took reins

Capital Gearing Trust net asset value is up 5.3%

Capital Gearing delivers 200x capital return since Peter Spiller took reins – Capital Gearing Trust’s (CGT) dual objectives are to preserve shareholders’ real wealth and generate an absolute total return over the the medium to longer term. Since 1982, when Peter Spiller, Capital Gearing Asset Management’s chief investment officer, assumed responsibility for CGT, it has been the best performing of all conventional investment companies.

Turning £1 into £200

CGT’s share price closed at 4,250p on 30 May 2019, which on a capital return basis, is a figure that takes the return generated by the trust to 200x since Peter Spiller took over on 1 April 1982. WIthout taking dividends into account, a pound invested on 1 April 1982 would have been worth £200 at the close of trade yesterday. The 200x figure takes into account a 2:1 share split that is detailed in the company’s 1984 annual report.

About CGT

CGT’s investment objective is to achieve capital growth in absolute terms principally through investment in quoted closed ended and other collective investment vehicles, invested in equities or property, with a willingness to hold cash, bonds, index linked securities and commodities when appropriate.

We have written notes that explain how the fund works: “Focus on absolute returns.” We also recently published a story detailing CGT’s growth over the past year; you can access it here.
