Alex O'Cinneide | CEO & Chair of the Investment Committee

Alex O’Cinneide is a leading venture capital and private equity investor within the clean energy space. He is CEO and Chair of the Investment Committee of Gore Street Capital, which Alex founded in 2015 as a platform to facilitate the deployment of renewable energy solutions. The company manages London’s first listed energy storage fund, which holds assets worth over £534m across four countries.

Alex’s career in energy and finance has included senior roles at KPMG, Quorum European Partners, Kleinwort Benson and Paladin Capital Group, where he served as Managing Director and Head of Europe. Between 2006 and 2013, Alex acted as Head of Investments and General Manager at Masdar Capital, the utility-scale renewables developer established by the UAE’s $284bn sovereign wealth fund to diversify the region’s energy resources.

Alongside his commercial endeavours, Alex holds an MA in history from Trinity College Dublin and MSc qualifications in finance and political philosophy from the London Business School and the London School of Economics and Political Science, respectively. He returned to Trinity College Dublin to complete a PhD in 2020 that analysed the effectiveness of renewable energy policy in the Republic of Ireland and the UK.
Alex is a visiting researcher for Cambridge University’s Energy Policy Group as well as an Honorary Research Fellow at Imperial College London and a Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society.

The expertise gathered from his academic and commercial careers has allowed Alex to fulfil key advisory roles for UNICEF, where he chairs the organisation’s Climate Change Committee, and on the boards of several organisations across the global clean energy sector.
Alex is also a trustee of the London Irish Centre, a charity delivering welfare support and cultural events for the capital’s Irish community.
