Litigation Finance

The funds in the AIC’s litigation finance sector lend money to people or firms to fund lawsuits and may take a share of any money awarded to their client. Once the finance committed there is little chance that the fund can get it back again until the lawsuit is concluded so the portfolio is very illiquid (hard to turn into cash). Litigation finance funds are also restricted in the amount of information they can disclose about their portfolio which makes it harder to assess their prospects.
