Literacy Capital backs Langford’s as first deal for Red Sky Food Group

Literacy Capital : Book

Literacy Capital (BOOK) has announced a new investment in Langford’s, a premium meat products manufacturer based in Welshpool, Wales. The deal marks the first acquisition for Red Sky Food Group, a newly formed platform company established with food industry veteran Mark Chantler.

Founded in 2003 by John Langford and Christine Gethin, Langford’s has grown into a respected supplier of award-winning meat products. Literacy’s investment supports the retirement of the founders, with Christine’s son, Josh Gethin, continuing as managing director to lead the next phase of growth.

Langford’s employs 40 people and operates from a well-invested factory in Powys. The company is known for its high-quality products, agile production, and strong customer relationships.

The deal sees Literacy Capital investing alongside Mark Chantler, former CEO of Meadow Foods, who joins Red Sky Food Group as executive chairman. Chantler brings significant sector experience, having led Meadow Foods through multiple private equity-backed growth phases before exiting in 2024.

Red Sky Food Group is set to pursue a buy-and-build strategy in the food manufacturing space, with a focus on protein-based products.

Richard Pindar, CEO of Literacy Capital’s investment manager, commented: “Langford’s is a fantastic business with real potential, and we’re pleased to be backing Josh and partnering with Mark Chantler. We’ve evaluated a number of food businesses with Mark over time and are excited that Langford’s is the first to join Red Sky Food Group.” Mark Chantler added: “I’m delighted to be working with Literacy Capital on this opportunity. Langford’s is a great fit for our strategy, and I look forward to building on the strong foundations laid by John, Christine, and Josh as we grow Red Sky.”
