QuotedData, the investment company analyst that employs our columnist James Carthew, celebrated its tenth anniversary last night. At a bar in the City of London, I found the mood among the crowd of closed-end fund professionals was surprisingly upbeat, perhaps buoyed by the sight of Christmas office party revellers in the street outside.
The general view was the sector had bounced back from its October lows and was on the up, carried aloft by hopes of interest rate cuts and reform of cost disclosure rules that have unfairly penalised London-listed funds.
Today’s announcement by Abrdn that it will plough at least £30m of fees into shares of its investment companies it manages is another positive development…
