  • Marwyn Value Investors (MVI) announced the appointment of Will Self to the company’s board as CEO, leading the development and execution of MVI’s overall company strategy. James Corsellis, CIO commented: “We are delighted to be working with Will in his new role as CEO, alongside Mark Hodges as chairman, as the company continues in the development and execution of its strategy”.
  • Canadian General Investments (CGI) provided a year to date portfolio update. The company’s unaudited NAV per share at May 31, 2023 was $52.23, resulting in year-to-date and 12-month NAV returns, with dividends reinvested, of 9.3% and 3.7%, respectively. These compare with the 2.3% and -2.5% returns of the benchmark S&P/TSX Composite Index on a total return basis for the same periods.
  • Schroders Capital Global Innovation Trust (INOV) announced it has made an investment of $1.7 million (£1.4 million) in US-based, clinical-stage biopharmaceutical company, Carmot Therapeutics, as part of its Series E financing round. Carmot discovers and develops disease-modifying therapies for people living with metabolic diseases. Utilising a pioneering drug discovery platform called Chemotype Evolution, Carmot identifies novel drug targets and develops a broad pipeline of experimental therapeutics with the aim of treating patients suffering from metabolic diseases, including obesity and diabetes.
  • Third Point Investors (TPOU) provided a monthly update returning -0.9% on a NAV basis in May 2023, compared with a -0.9% return for the MSCI World Index and a 0.4% return for the S&P 500 Index. During the month the company’s share price returned -1.3%, reflecting a widening in the discount to NAV from 17.6% to 18.0%.
  • BlackRock Frontiers Investment Trust (BRFI) provided a half year update. During the six months to 31 March 2023, the company achieved a NAV total return in US dollars of +14.5%, outperforming its benchmark index which returned +4.5%. The company’s share price total return was +19.8%. The MSCI Frontier Markets Index returned +2.2% and the MSCI Emerging Markets Index returned +14.0% over the same period.
