Morning briefing: Baker Steel Resources buoyed by Futura and Caledonia news; big vote against AVI Global’s Jessop; Thompson lifts SEC stake to 5%; plus ADIG

Baker Steel Resources (BSRT) gains 4p, or 5.5%, to 76p on two pieces of good news. Futura Resources, the unquoted Australian miner that is its second biggest holding at nearly a quarter of the portfolio, has refinanced its debt through a “Nordic Bond” arranged by Clarkson Securities that raising US$90m cash to repay all its debts and fund both its mines to full production. Separately, fund manager Trevor Steel said Zimbabwe’s decision last week to raise the threshold at which gold miners would pay a 10% government royalty to $5,000 per ounce was supportive of Caledonia Mining achieving financing for its Bilboes Gold Project in Matabeleland.

AVI Global Trust (AGT) says it will engage with shareholders who voted against the re-election of June Jessop, chair of its nomination committee, who received only 76.9% of votes at the annual general meeting on Friday, and will report back on its findings in six months.

Strategic Equity Capital (SEC) says Sir Clive Thompson, its non-independent deputy chair, has lifted his holding in the UK smaller companies trust to 5% up from 4.3% disclosed in this year’s annual report. Thompson, a former chief executive and chair of Rentokil, is a member of SEC fund manager Gresham House’s Industry Advisory Panel.

Abrdn Diversified Income Growth (ADIG), the £82m flexible investment fund preparing to complete its wind-down and liquidate in the first quarter of next year, has issued half-year results. In the six months to 30 September, its net asset value fell 26.4% with shareholders seeing a total loss of 4.4%.
