WisdomTree has expanded its European thematic ETF range with the launch of a new fund targeting the global space economy.
The WisdomTree Space Economy UCITS ETF (WSPC) is designed to give investors exposure to companies involved in the development and commercialisation of space-related technologies and services. The fund tracks the WisdomTree Space Economy UCITS Index and has a total expense ratio of 0.50%.
The ETF listed on Xetra, Borsa Italiana, Euronext Paris and SIX Swiss Exchange on 4 June, and the London Stock Exchange on 5 June.
The index focuses on four areas of the market: launches and infrastructure, commercial space, defence space and emerging technologies. WisdomTree say the strategy uses a proprietary framework combining thematic and company-level scoring, with companies weighted according to their relevance to the further development and commercialisation of the space economy.
The launch comes as space moves from a largely government-led activity into a broader commercial ecosystem. WisdomTree points to growing use across satellite connectivity, earth observation, geospatial intelligence, navigation, communications, climate monitoring and critical infrastructure, as well as emerging areas such as in-orbit manufacturing and space-based data infrastructure.
We have already seen significant investor appetite for this area in the investment trust sector. Seraphim Space Investment Trust (SSIT), the world’s first listed SpaceTech investment company, has seen its shares rise almost 200% over the past year and is set to join the FTSE 250 later this month. The trust has benefited from growing interest in the defence applications of space technology, against a backdrop of heightened geopolitical tensions and rising defence spending across the West.
Pierre Debru, head of research, Europe at WisdomTree, said space was “transitioning from a niche, government-led domain into a broader economic ecosystem with expanding commercial and strategic importance”.
The new fund also adds to a wider run of investor interest in more targeted thematic ETFs. WisdomTree said it now manages $10.9bn across 19 thematic ETFs listed in Europe. The range has attracted $3.3bn of net inflows so far in 2026, including $1.4bn into the WisdomTree Europe Defence UCITS ETF and $863m into the WisdomTree Strategic Metals and Rare Earth Miners UCITS ETF.
Our view
David Batchelor, senior analyst at QuotedData, said: “This launch is a sign that thematic ETFs are becoming more specialised, giving investors access to narrower long-term growth stories that were previously harder to target through listed funds. Space is still an early-stage theme, and investors should be mindful that many of the companies involved may be exposed to volatile growth expectations, defence spending cycles and rapidly changing technology. However, the fund also reflects the way space-related infrastructure is becoming more embedded in everyday economic activity, from communications and navigation to security, logistics and climate monitoring”.
