Richard started his career as a journalist and his work has been published in many of the UK national newspapers. He has been covering the real estate market for more than eight years, most recently as news editor at leading real estate trade publication Property Week. Richard has an in-depth knowledge of the property sector with a focus on the industrial and retail markets, and has vast experience in writing news, analysis and comment on the real estate sector. He has regularly chaired panel debates at industry events including at international property conference MIPIM.

Roger Clarke has spent 30 years working in European capital markets including investment banking roles at NM Rothschild, Dresdner Kleinwort Wasserstein, JP Morgan Cazenove and Stifel Nicolaus, as well as undertaking a secondment to the UK Takeover Panel.

He has also been Head of UK Capital Markets for ING Real Estate, and more recently he was Head of Corporate Finance at M7 Real Estate where he set up and ran the alternative lending platform, Tunstall Real Estate. He qualified as a Chartered Accountant with Arthur Andersen.

Joanna Tano | Head of Research – Columbia Threadneedle Real Estate Partners LLP

As Head of Research for CT Real Estate Partners, Joanna is responsible for setting the Research strategy for the European platform. She advises the firm and its clients on market and sector opportunities, challenges and risks. She also works with key stakeholders to influence the strategy and composition of portfolios and business development opportunities including prospective product launches, and uses her experience in economic and property market analysis to guide the investment decision making process. Joanna joined CT Real Estate Partners in April 2021 from Cromwell Property Group where she was the Head of Research. Prior to that she was responsible for the research team across EMEA at Cushman & Wakefield. Joanna has 20 years of experience in commercial real estate research and strategy through roles she held in the United Kingdom and France. She holds a Joint Honours degree in Psychology & Sociology from City, University of London.

Daniel Walsgrove | Deputy Fund Manager – Columbia Threadneedle Real Estate Partners LLP

Daniel Walsgrove, MRICS, joined CT Real Estate Partners (CT REP) in 2017. Daniel has 9 years of post-qualified experience in the UK real estate sector across both the asset and fund management disciplines. Prior to joining CT REP, Daniel spent four years at LaSalle Investment Management with a responsibility for the conception and delivery of accretive asset management strategies across an extensive retail-focussed portfolio. Since joining CT REP, Daniel’s role has developed to include oversight of CT REP’s ‘Alternatives’ sector strategy, extensive activity within the wider capital markets and, since April 2021, Deputy Fund Manager of the listed CT Property Trust. Daniel is a Chartered Surveyor, holds a post-graduate diploma in Real Estate from the College of Estate Management and has completed the CFA Level 4 Certificate in Investment Management (IMC).

Matthew Howard
Matthew Howard | Director – Fund Manager, Columbia Threadneedle Real Estate Partners LLP

Matthew joined Columbia Threadneedle Real Estate Partners (formerly BMO Real Estate Partners) in July 2017 as a Director and to take over as Fund Manager of the RSA Shareholders Real Estate Fund. He was also Deputy Fund Manager of the Balanced Commercial Property Trust until taking on the Lead Fund Manager role for CT Property Trust in July 2022. Before joining the group in 2017 he was a Deputy Fund Manager at Hermes Investment Management, where he spent six years as part of the BT Pension Scheme fund management team and launched the company’s PRS Fund. Before Hermes, Matthew worked for a substantial AIM listed real estate fund specialising in UK development and German real estate. Matthew is a member of the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors, has an MSc in Real Estate, and holds the IMC.

His first book, Damaged Goods: The Inside Story of Sir Philip Green, the Collapse of BHS and the Death of the High Street was published by Penguin in June 2018.

Since 2019 Troels has been Fund Manager of abrdn’s multi-sector European Long Income Real Estate Fund, having successfully overseen its launch. Darren joined Grit in October 2018 to head up Grit’s investor relations function following its successful debut on the main market of the LSE earlier that year. A former Director and Head of CEMEA equity sales at Deutsche Bank (London), he successfully led the distribution of numerous initial public offerings, block trades and secondary market sell downs across local emerging market and London Stock Exchanges.

Prior to joining Deutsche Bank in 2006, Darren worked in Structured Syndicate at JP Morgan (London) and Ernst & Young in both London and South Africa. Darren, who is a qualified South African Chartered accountant, has been an associate member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of England and Wales since 2010 and a CFA Institute Charter Holder since 2005.

James Beaumont | CFO, Industrials REIT

James was appointed CFO of Industrials REIT in 2019 having been Head of Finance since 2015. He previously spent five years as finance director of alternative asset funds at Shore Capital Group, where his focus was on German real estate. Prior to that, he had eight years of experience in European real estate and financial services through senior finance roles at Cambridge Place Investment Management and Genworth Plc. James qualified as a chartered accountant in 2002, after serving articles with UHY Hacker Young. He holds a BSc (Hons) degree from the University of Leeds.
