Our quarterly news show special on 29th November 2024 featured a panel of highly regarded investment managers from abrdn Equity Income Trust, CT UK High Income Trust and Supermarket income RIET.
For most of us, reinvesting income is a vital part of building the capital value of a portfolio, and – particularly later in life – many investors rely on the income from their investments. There is a lot to get right: generating an attractive yield without compromising on capital returns, building a portfolio that generates growing income, avoiding investments that deliver nasty surprises in the form of dividend cuts. The investing for income panel will talk to some of the leading fund managers of trusts that invest for income, offer some insights into what works and what doesn’t, cover the importance of dividend cover and the trade off between maximising income and dividend growth.
We brought together top fund managers to debate on how to best for income. News took place as normal right at the beginning of the show by James Carthew.

Thomas is an Investment Director within the UK equities team. He began his career in 1998, joining Schroder Investment Management as Assistant Fund Manager, UK Equities. He joined the company in 2002 as an Investment Analyst. He then managed EMEA portfolios before moving to the UK equities team in 2006. As well as managing income strategies, Thomas specialises in analysing Financial Services companies. Thomas began managing the abrdn Equity Income Trust in November 2011.

David joined the Company's Investment Manager in 1996, which became part of Columbia Threadneedle Investments in 2021, and is currently a UK & European Fund manager as well as Head of European Equities Research Strategy. David has 28 years' industry experience managing assets, both OEICs and Investment Trusts, on behalf of a wide variety of clients. Prior to his current role, David was Co-Head of Global Equities at BMO Global Asset Management. He is currently the lead manager on the CT UK High Income Trust, the CT Select UK Equity Income Fund and the CT (Lux) European Growth & Income Fund.

Ben has over 20 years’ of experience structuring and executing real estate transactions and has completed £4 billion of supermarket sale and leaseback transactions over the course of his career. Ben qualified as a lawyer in 1997 and worked at Wilde Sapte and Linklaters LLP. He left law in 2000 and has since spent his career at Barclays, Lloyds and Goldman Sachs where he was a Managing Director and European Head of Structured Finance.
