The Board of Baillie Gifford Shin Nippon  has announced that Baillie Gifford, the Company’s Investment Manager, will appoint Praveen Kumar as portfolio manager of Baillie Gifford Shin Nippon PLC with effect from 1 December 2015.  After eight years as portfolio manager of Baillie Gifford Shin Nippon, John MacDougall will take up another role within the firm covering Global Equities. Praveen graduated BEng in Computer Science from Bangalore University in 2001, and has an MBA from Judge Business School, University of Cambridge. He previously worked for FKI Logistex before joining Baillie Gifford in 2008. After completing the investment graduate trainee programme Praveen joined the Japanese Equities Team as an Investment Manager in 2011 and has worked closely with John over the last twelve months.

Baillie Gifford has always adopted a team-based approach to stock-picking and Praveen will continue to be supported by Baillie Gifford’s Japanese Equities Team, which currently comprises five investment managers and three analysts.

The Board said they “would like to thank John for his sterling work managing the Fund and working with the Board over the past eight years.  The performance that John and the Baillie Gifford team have produced during that time period has been first rate, and the Board is looking forward to continued strong performance under Praveen’s stewardship.”
