Record copper production for Central Asia Mines

Central Asia Mines has reported record quarterly copper production and sales at its Kounrad operation for the third quarter ended 30 September 2016.

Kounrad produced 4,102t of copper cathode, a 38% increase on the corresponding period of 2015, including a record monthly production of 1,503t in August. Year-to-date copper production was 11,010t, a 31% increase on the first nine months of the previous year.

The company sold 10,646t of cathodes, 38% up on 2015, in the nine months to end September, predominantly through its off-take sales arrangement with Traxys.

The company has maintained its production guidance for 2016 at 13,000-14,000t of copper.

Meanwhile, the Stage 2 Expansion to exploit the Western Dumps area is nearing completion and approximately 25% under the US$19.5 million budget, principally as a result of the devaluation of the Kazakhstan tenge.

CAML expects to complete the definitive feasibility study on its 75%-owned Copper Bay project, in Chile, in Q4.
