John Laing diversifies overseas

The last time I dedicated an article to John Laing Infrastructure (JLIF) was back in September 2011. The fund was quite new then having launched at the end of November 2010, although the sector had been around for a while given HICL (HICL) launched in March 2006, followed by International Public Partnerships (INPP) in November that year and 3i Infrastructure (3IN) in March 2007). At the time, it seemed as though opposition to private finance initiatives (PFI) was building. I concluded by saying that as long as the UK government didn’t change the rules of the game, JLIF ought to do well.

It would be fair to say that JLIF and the rest of the sector have done very well. Each investment company has made double-digit annualised returns for shareholders over the past five years….
