EP Global Opportunities appoints Tom Walker to its board – The value focused growth fund, EP Global Opportunities (EPG), has confirmed the appointment of Tom Walker to its board of directors effective today. Tom takes on the role of independent non-executive director. He brings with him extensive experience in investment management, including in investment trusts specifically, where he was most recently manager of the Martin Currie Global Portfolio (MNP).
Coming off a 2018 that saw its NAV total return decline by 7.1% (share price movement was relatively better at -4.2%), EPG’s chairman, Teddy Tulloch, stated in March that” Our relatively low weighting in the USA (10.3% at end-February) held back performance in 2018, as did our significant investment in bank shares. However, we benefited from the more defensive strategy of our investment manager including an increased investment in telecom shares. We note that so far in 2019, EPG’s share price is up 4.4%, compared to a 9.6% appreciation in the FTSE all world index, which again is mainly the result of the relatively low US exposure. About half of the index is accounted for by the US.
